Egypt energy woes, UAE GDP, Tunisia elections

Blackouts continued in Egypt this week, and while there are some short-term fixes, the government will need to boost investments over the coming years to avoid repeats, particularly if it also wants to hit its renewable energy goals. Elsewhere, Q1 GDP data from the Dubai and Abu Dhabi look consistent with our expectation that the UAE will be the fastest growing economy in the Gulf this year. And finally, Tunisia’s President Saied has confirmed he will seek re-election in October. But, while he has managed to steer the economy away from crisis in his first term, his second may not prove as lucky
