Picking apart the post-Trump sell-off

The sell-off in EM markets following Donald Trump’s victory appears to have been driven by a general rise in investor risk aversion, rather than specific concerns over a shift towards greater trade protection in the US or expectations of tighter Fed policy in the near term. Unless the sell-off deepens, most central banks are likely to look through the market volatility, with only Mexico likely to respond by raising interest rates over the coming weeks.
