Emerging Markets Capital Flows Monitor (Dec. 2024)

Capital inflows into EMs have been resurgent over the past few weeks amid a broader improvement in global risk appetite. Looking ahead, however, likely policies from President-elect Trump point to a renewed strengthening in the US dollar – an environment that typically leads to outflows from EMs. This wouldn’t be a problem for most EMs, but those with large external vulnerabilities such as Argentina and Turkey could be vulnerable to sharp currency falls.
