Nigeria recently became the BRICS group's latest "partner" member, adding to the evidence that the government is trying to straddle the geopolitical divide between US- and China-led blocs. But that task may well get harder with President Trump in power. Meanwhile, Nigeria could soon breach its OPEC+ oil production quota, but the bigger worry should be whether these gains can be sustained in the medium term. Elsewhere, the outlook for Mozambique took a turn for the worse after reports that TotalEnergies will delay its $20bn Cabo Delgado LNG mega project. Without this, the risk of an economic crisis risks will grow.
