A round of state asset sales announced in Egypt this week suggests that there is fresh impetus behind the privatisation drive and that the government is pushing to get the IMF deal back on track. But this is just one of a number of policies that officials need to pursue to restore macro stability and improve Egypt’s long-term prospects. Meanwhile, with more supply coming onstream and higher mortgage costs starting to bite, the recent strength of Dubai’s property market may not last.
