A lot of headlines from President Putin’s annual year-end press conference have focused on suggestions that he’s willing to make compromises to end the war in Ukraine. But it also remains clear that the two sides would start negotiations very far apart and any deal would take a long time. Meanwhile, Turkey’s central bank meeting next week is a pivotal one, with a majority of analysts expecting a monetary easing cycle to begin. We're in a minority expecting a hold. If we’re wrong, the central bank will need to ensure that its communications hit the right tone to avoid an adverse financial market reaction.
