Consensus expectations for India’s economy suggest that it will grow at a similar pace in 2025 as it has in 2024. Certainly, data this week suggest that the economy is carrying good momentum into the new year. But tighter fiscal policy and a marked slowdown in credit growth are likely, we think, to drive India’s growth rate below most analysts’ expectations. The RBI policy rate is likely to fall more than most anticipate too.
