Expectations for an imminent end to Russia’s war in Ukraine once Trump takes office as US President on 20th January took a knock this week, following an FT report and statements by officials suggesting that Trump was pushing back his timeline to end the conflict to several months. This gives rise to a broader range of scenarios for the war and its eventual resolution, including the US wanting to put Ukraine in a stronger position for peace talks and to extract more concessions from Russia.
