The sell-off in the bond market in developed economies that grabbed the headlines over the past few weeks has also hit emerging markets but, so far at least, it does not provide much cause for concern. If bond yields continue to rise, governments in those countries with large financing needs – notably, Hungary, Brazil and South Africa – stand to lose the most.
