The latest package of sanctions adopted by the EU and the US against Russia will affect the economy in different ways. In the short-term, restrictions on access to western capital markets for selected banks and businesses have the potential to do the most damage to the economy. But further out, the ban on exports of energy-related technologies also poses a serious threat to growth over the medium-term.
