ECB policymakers have set out their stall ahead of next Thursday’s meeting and will continue to push back against expectations of early rate cuts – notwithstanding mounting evidence that the economy is probably in a mild recession. In contrast, the normally-hawkish Swiss National Bank has struck a more dovish note this week and we think it is likely to cuts its policy rate in March.
