This Focus assesses the outlook for US energy equities, which have come into the spotlight of late amid swings in oil prices. In short, we expect the sector to underperform its peers over the coming year or so. That mainly reflects our downbeat view on oil prices. Indeed, even though we forecast the S&P 500 to rise to 7,000 by end-2025, we wouldn’t be surprised if the S&P 500 energy sector fell over this period.
