Romania Interest Rate Announcement (Oct.)

The decision by the National Bank of Romania (NBR) to pause its easing cycle today, leaving the policy rate at 6.50%, seems to reflect growing concern about the persistence of underlying inflationary pressures and elevated fiscal risks ahead of the upcoming election in December. We think that interest rates will remain on hold again next month, and that monetary easing in 2025 will be more limited than most analysts expect.
