One reason for the slump in productivity is that the recent surge in working hours is producing diminishing returns. And we suspect that disruptions caused by the pandemic prevented firms from stepping up business investment in response to record capacity utilisation. Both headwinds should fade over the coming quarters and we still expect productivity growth to accelerate in the longer-term.
