Nigeria: inflation, rates, and budget optimism

Nigeria’s headline inflation rate crept up further in November, but we’re not convinced that this will prompt the central bank to deliver more rate hikes. Otherwise, President Tinubu unveiled the 2025 Federal Budget this week but, as we warned at the time that the draft version was unveiled, it relies on some relatively optimistic assumptions. The public finances will continue to rest on shaky foundations.
