Africa Weekly: Trump tariffs, SA Budget and GNU instability

African economies will, for the most part, be relatively unaffected by US President Trump’s tariff announcement this week, at least directly. But it may cause indirect harm through lower commodity prices. And officials will further question whether the US can be relied upon as a partner. Meanwhile, South Africa’s budget debacle appears to be reached a tipping point, with the DA increasingly likely to leave the Government of National Unity. That will only make pushing through fiscal tightening and structural reforms more difficult.
