Mozambique’s political unrest looks set to continue following opposition leader Venâncio Mondlane's return and his claim that he is the country’s rightful president. Eyes will next turn to ruling Fremilo leader Daniel Chapo’s presidential inauguration next week and, further ahead, whether key gas projects can be restarted and sovereign default avoided. Elsewhere, China’s foreign minister Wang Yi made his annual trip to Africa this week, which included stops in Nigeria and Chad, once again illustrating parts of the continent find themselves at the heart of a growing tussle for influence between the West and Beijing.
