In normal times, the MPC would be preparing the ground for another interest rate hike. After all, pay growth has picked up far more sharply than the Bank of England had anticipated. But as it is still unclear how Brexit will pan out, the Committee seems likely to hold off for fear of worsening the economic slowdown that would result from a “no deal” exit.
