After taking a significant hit in the aftermath of demonetisation in late 2016, India’s rural economy has regained momentum in recent months. Future prospects for the rural economy look bright, in large part because, with political considerations in mind, the government has unveiled numerous policies to boost incomes and investment. This bodes well for overall economic growth, and also leaves the ruling BJP firmly on course to secure a resounding victory in the 2019 general election.
