Emerging Market Consumer Snapshot (Q1 2014)

EM consumer spending grew at its slowest pace since 2009 last year. However, the latest data suggest that spending has started to pick up in recent months and, while a significant upturn seems unlikely, we do expect spending to accelerate further over the course of this year. Looking beyond the next year or so, the EM consumer story has much further to run. We remain most optimistic on the outlook for consumers in Emerging Asia and Africa.
