January’s PMIs suggest that stabilisation in manufacturing across EMs continued at the start of the year. It’s particularly encouraging that conditions are no longer getting worse in Brazil and Russia. All this adds to evidence that growth across the emerging world held up well at the start of the year, and that the widespread fears of a slump in activity are overdone.
