Diverging prospects

Timely data suggest that April may have been the trough for EM GDP, and activity at an aggregate level should recover – albeit slowly – in the coming months. But this is likely to mask a significant divergence at the regional and country level. Activity is already starting to pick up in parts of Emerging Asia and Emerging Europe. But much of Latin America, the Middle East and Africa will take longer to recover.
