Housing Starts (Aug. 2024)

The large rise in housing starts in August was due to a rebound in starts in the south, confirming that the July slump was a temporary disruption caused by Hurricane Beryl. The increase in permits, particularly in the single-family sector where issuance had been falling, suggest this will be sustained, consistent with our view that there will be a single-family led recovery in new construction in the final months of the year.
