Existing Home Sales (Sep. 2024)

The 0.5% m/m fall in seasonally adjusted existing home sales in September seems underwhelming given last month’s drop in mortgage rates, but the rise in mortgage applications in September points to a recovery in October – provided that recent hurricane disruptions do not weigh too heavily on activity. We expect that lower borrowing costs will trigger a small recovery in sales by the end of this year.
