As we anticipated, housing starts in England spiked to their highest level on record in Q2 as builders began work early to avoid having to conform with the Future Homes Standard. More timely monthly data show that starts slumped in July and August in keeping with our view that housing construction will continue to fall back, by 40% compared to 2022 levels next year.
