Boost to newbuild volumes over

New home construction has been surprisingly resilient to weaker demand so far this year. But that partly reflects activity being brought forward before building standards were tightened in June. With that boost now over and survey data indicating a further fall in demand, we expect new housing starts to slump by a third in the second half of the year.
