The stimulus packages announced by Chinese policymakers were the main reason behind the chunky increases in industrial metals prices this week, and explain why they performed better than most other commodity prices. However, the stimulus measures are no silver bullet for the structural headwinds to the sector and so we think the stimulus-inspired turnaround in industrial metals prices is likely to prove short-lived.
