Our China Activity Proxy suggests that economic growth weakened in May on the back of a fall in services activity. Industry also slowed, following months of outperformance. We doubt this marks the start of a downturn just yet – fiscal stimulus and strong exports should continue to offer support over the coming months. Structural headwinds will drag on growth over the longer run, however.
