There were mixed signals from the White House this week over whether the 25% tariffs on imports from Canada will come into effect as scheduled on March 4th. Providing that does not happen, then the large upside surprise to fourth-quarter GDP growth – together with the recent upside surprises to employment and inflation – suggest the Bank is on track to leave interest rates on hold in March.
