BoC’s surveys hold up, but already out of date

The Bank of Canada’s quarterly business and consumer surveys were nowhere near as bad as we feared, but that may only be because the survey periods preceded the most recent tariff announcements. Either way, it’s clear that those tariffs and uncertainty about the broader global economic and market impact of US trade policy will weigh heavily on the economy this year, even if a recession is avoided.
