The Bank of Canada’s latest quarterly surveys leave no doubt that higher interest rates are weighing on demand, but still don’t show a convincing moderation in wage and inflation expectations. Nevertheless, the surveys probably still favour a 25 bp hike next week, providing that the December CPI release tomorrow does not throw up any big surprises.
