Trump & the Mexican peso: how low can you go?

The likely market sell-off in response to a victory for Donald Trump next week could push the Mexican peso to as low as 25/$. What happens to the peso beyond the initial sell-off would depend upon several factors, most notably the degree to which a Trump government makes good on promises of trade protection. However, it’s worth bearing in mind that a weaker currency will, to a large extent, help to limit any damage to Mexican exporters in the case that trade tariffs are introduced.
