What do falling commodity prices mean for Australia?

Sharp falls in commodity prices over recent weeks have raised questions over the sustainability of Australia’s mining investment boom. On the plus side, the struggling non-mining parts of the economy would stand to benefit if further commodity price falls were accompanied by a weaker Australian dollar. There is also plenty of room for policy stimulus to support growth. Accordingly, we continue to expect Australia to outperform.
