While the acceleration in full-time jobs growth in Australia since the start of the year is clearly a positive development for income and consumption growth, the impact on wage growth and inflation is unlikely to be as good. That’s because it hasn’t eaten away at much of the existing slack in the labour market and it is this abundance of spare capacity which is keeping a lid on wage growth.
