We suspect that a tightening in lending standards as a result of the Royal Commission into banking misconduct will more than offset any further relaxation in APRA’s lending restrictions to leave Australia’s housing market looking pretty weak in 2019 and 2020. It’s even possible that by 2020, a Labor government will have limited negative gearing and the RBA will have raised interest rates.
