Trump still favourite, as Biden withdraws

After his disastrous debate performance, President Joe Biden has dropped out of the race to be re-elected in this November’s election. His withdrawal letter acknowledges Vice President Kamala Harris as “an extraordinary partner in all this” and, in a follow up tweet, he offered her his endorsement, asking the Democratic party to adopt her as the alternative nominee. California Governor Gavin Newsom, Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama and Pete Buttigieg, the current Transportation Secretary, are occasionally mentioned as other possible candidates, although betting markets strongly suggest it will be Harris. We don’t think there’s a lot of mileage to be had in trawling through her policy positions during the 2020 primary, particularly as she focused more on social issues rather than economic initiatives.
