House prices rose for the fourth consecutive month in May according to Case-Shiller. The resurgence in prices has coincided with an uptick in home sales from February to May, in turn driven by a moderation in mortgage rates. But rates have since been trending up, bringing mortgage applications and sales back down. Indeed, mortgage applications for home purchase are sitting near 30-year lows, so we expect house prices to fall in the coming months.
