The small rise in new home sales in December confirmed that the new build sector is holding up better than the wider market. This likely reflects builders offering generous incentives to attract buyers as well as issues around cancellations. Looking ahead, we think sales will fluctuate around their current levels in the coming months as falling mortgage rates and growing economic headwinds offset each other.
