New government, same faces

The minimal personnel changes in PM Modi’s new cabinet suggests the new government’s policy direction will be similar to before. Admittedly, concessions on spending may have to be made to appease the BJP’s new coalition partners. But these are likely to be small and, in any case, the progress made in reducing the budget deficit in recent years means they are unlikely to pose a risk to government finances.
