The standout feature of the data released in the region this week was the strength of Polish GDP in Q2 – the economy is now comfortably outperforming its peers in the region. The most plausible explanation is that domestic demand is running hotter in Poland than elsewhere, helped by strong wage growth and higher military spending. But the flip side of stronger domestic demand is that the inflation problem is likely to persist for longer.
