Korea’s property doldrums, Indonesia’s new president

Concerns that interest rate cuts could lead to a renewed property price bubble in Korea look overblown. With housing transactions close to multi-year lows and the stock of unsold homes high by historical standards, we think property prices will remain flat over the coming year.

Prabowo Subianto becomes president of Indonesia on Sunday. Since his election victory in February, he has moved to ease the concerns of investors who were worried by suggestions he would side-step the country’s strict budget rules.
