After voting to expand its quantitative easing (QE) programme last month, the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) looks likely to pause for breath at this week’s policy meeting. Nonetheless, with the external environment deteriorating rapidly and inflation pressures starting to ease, next week’s Bank of England Inflation Report is likely to lay the foundations for a further extension of the programme in December or early next year.
