A look ahead to Egypt’s presidential election

Egyptian presidential elections are due to be held in the coming months with Field Marshal al-Sisi, the leader of July’s “second revolution”, widely tipped to emerge triumphant. However, he would inherit an economy that is still reeling from three years of political upheaval. And while his popularity means that he may have a greater ability to push through a wave of (unpopular) economic reforms, for now we remain cautious about the prospects of this happening.
