JP Morgan’s announcement that it will include five GCC economies in its EMBI dollar bond indices should provide a further fillip to foreign investment in the region’s financial markets. Even so, we expect dollar bond spreads in the Gulf to widen over the next year or so. Meanwhile, hints that Egypt will return to international bond markets will raise fresh fears over the government’s large stock of FX debt.
