First thoughts on Egypt’s presidential elections

Today marks the first day in Egypt’s presidential elections with the opinion polls and expatriate votes showing contradictory results. Regardless of who wins, two outstanding issues remain from an economic perspective. First the new constitution defining the role of the new president has not yet been agreed. And second, the main candidates have failed to provide a clear direction over their economic policy.
