Egypt: much depends on IMF deal as fiscal challenges mount

The fact that the Egyptian government intends to increase public sector employment in the next fiscal year adds to our view that its fiscal deficit target for 2012/13 is too optimistic. We think that the deficit will come in at around 9.5% of GDP – well above the government’s target of 7.9%.
