Russia & WTO: don’t expect a miracle

After almost 20 years of negotiations, Russia’s membership in the WTO at last seems imminent. But as the effects of this will be spread over several years, we do not expect a significant impact on the economy in the immediate future. What’s more, in the absence of wider reform to clean up the business environment even the longer-term benefits are likely to disappoint.
