Dong devaluation not part of Asian currency war

Although today’s decision by the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) to devalue the dong by a further 1% against the US dollar and widen the trading band was in part linked to China’s devaluation of the renminbi last week, we doubt it was part of a broader regional currency war.
