US election taking centre-stage

Energy and agricultural prices took a tumble this week, but for the most part industrial and precious metals performed well. Although the dollar fell, the depreciation was driven by uncertainty over the outcome of the US Presidential election which also weighed on some commodity prices. Instead, safe-haven buying supported the price of gold, while industrial metals were boosted by stronger-than-expected China PMI readings for October.
