Focus shifts to US payrolls

Hawkish comments by some Fed officials and a slight strengthening of the US dollar ahead of Janet Yellen’s speech at Jackson Hole on Friday weighed on the prices of most commodities over the past week. However, while the Fed Chair added her voice to those arguing that the case for a rate hike has strengthened, she failed to signal any great urgency to hike. Meanwhile, after rising sharply at the end of last week, oil prices have fallen back a bit as Saudi Arabia tempered expectations for an output freeze.
